Introducing Social Activity

I teach English for students who are 5 to 6 years old, in a very regarded school about a year, and I realize that my students need certain values, such as confidence, affection, respect for others, to choose between what is right or wrong, and to be honest.My students are very wealthy and have little contact with their parents, because they stay in school full time, since 7a.m. until 7p.m.These children need to discover who they are and what kind of world they live (Liberali2008),because of the fact that parents don’t spend much time with their kids, they end up giving the children everything they want, in the way they want and when they want, what makes them impatient kids in any situation.The way that I would like to help them, is using the story telling related to the social activity and having fun at the same time, it is important to emphasize that the role of the educator must be based on “how to learn” and not on “what to learn” (Holzman,1993) and the Wizard of Oz is the story that I chose, because with that I can work with all the points which I want to improve in my classroom.First, I will tell them the story using a scenario, puppets and music, and then invite the kids to play Wizard of Oz.Each child will receive a different character, give the more powerful and uninhibited characters of the story for those who are shy and vice-versa, so then they can take more risks (Lobman,2007), give the kids some basic rules, so they know what is to be done, perhaps strict rules in the classroom can cause frustration and limitation to the student, when the purpose of improvise is break the old way and act anew.(Holzman,1993).I will use the interdisciplinarity (Kleiman,1998) in the others activities that will be developed, such as culture and regionality, where I can show my students the map of United States, emphasizing the State of Kansas which is the state where the story takes place, we will talk about clothes and typical food, weather and so on, arts will be used to build a yellow brick road of FOAM and (Craft),a painting of the characters in the book and a chat followed by a drawing of what they would like the magic give them, in music class they will learn songs from the Wizard of Oz and will receive a CD, so they can also listen at home.I believe that this project can improve the behavior of my students, teach them the important values to the formation of their character and also improve their English.
